Gary Hsin

Dr. Hsin, Stanford Clinical Professor (Affiliated), is Chief of Palliative Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. His interests include palliative care education, global health, and compassion cultivation. Dr. Hsin is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Medicine. After completion of his family medicine residency and chief residency at West Suburban Medical Center (Oak Park, IL), he completed his subspecialty training at Harvard's Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is a certified teacher in the Compassion Cultivation Training program with the Compassion Institute. Dr. Hsin has been involved in international health care efforts in Africa and Asia through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and the Stanford/Yale Global Health Scholars Program; he is a Faculty Fellow at Stanford’s Center for Innovation in Global Health.

Director of Palliative Care

Gary is the Director of Palliative care for a government hospital in Silicon Valley.  He has worked tirelessly there, training new doctors on the care of patients who have served our country.

Gary is a teacher with Stanford's Compassion Institute, located in Silicon Valley and lead by Thubten Jinpa, Ph D, the primary translator for His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama.
